CHECKINAGE GUIDE

Choice Hotels Check-In Age 2026: Comfort, Quality, Sleep Inn

Choice Hotels check in age varies. Most hotels require 19 to book alone; some require 21. Comfort Inn check in age is the property's own rule.

Editorial checklist: Choice Hotels check-in age is set by the exact hotel. The FAQ says 19 is common for a single guest, and some hotels require 21.

Short answer: Choice does not publish one check-in age

Choice Hotels’ FAQ answers “How old do you have to be to book a hotel room?” with: “If there will only be one guest in the room, most hotels require you to be a minimum of 19 years of age to book. However, some hotels require guests to be 21 or older.” It also says: “When a reservation is for two or more guests, at least one occupant must be 21 years of age or older if any other occupant staying in that room is age 18 or under. Call the hotel directly with any questions about age restrictions.”

Every reviewed Choice record in this directory currently lists 21 (7 hotels). None lists 18.

One of those records includes a military exception: Comfort Suites Downtown — Military members under 21 are permitted with valid military ID (the page does not give a lower age for them). That exception is not a general age of 18, and the page does not give those military members a lower number.

Those counts describe this directory, not every Comfort, Quality, Sleep Inn, Clarion, Econo Lodge, Ascend or Country Inn & Suites hotel. A listed age is not a room, and a completed reservation is not proof that the arriving guest meets the rule.

Booking age, check-in documents, and the child-stay line

The same FAQ answers “What do I need at check in?” with: “At check in, you'll need to present a government-issued ID and a credit card. The name on your identification and card must match the name under which the room was reserved.” That sentence names a credit card. It does not say a debit, prepaid or virtual card will work.

The child-stay answer is separate: “At participating locations, children 18 and younger stay free when they share the same room as their parents or grandparents.” That is a child-stay rule for participating locations, not a minimum age to check in alone.

On 22 October 2026, 16 choicehotels.com property pages in the Houston area and Orlando were checked. Only 2 stated a check-in age in their hotel alerts. The rest showed only the child-stay line “Anyone aged 18 and under, at time of booking, stay for free”. That line is also not a check-in age. If the hotel page does not state an age, ask the hotel.

Can you check into a Comfort Inn, Quality Inn, Sleep Inn or Econo Lodge at 18?

No reviewed property in those four names lists 18. The brand FAQ says 19 is the common minimum to book a room for one guest, and some hotels require 21. Confirm the exact hotel before you pay.

On 22 October 2026 the hotel alert for Sleep Inn Nashville near Percy Priest Lake still said “Min check-in age is 21 year or older.” That is the excerpt on its record, reviewed 3 October 2026.

Comfort Suites Downtown lists 21. Its official excerpt is “One adult 21 or order in each room. Military members under the age of 21 are permitted with valid military ID.” The word “order” is on the page. Military members under 21 are permitted with valid military ID (the page does not give a lower age for them).

The Choice FAQ names Comfort, Cambria, Ascend Hotel Collection, Quality Inn, Sleep Inn, Clarion, Clarion Pointe, Everhome Suites, MainStay Suites, Suburban Extended Stay, WoodSpring Suites, Econo Lodge, Rodeway Inn, Radisson Blu, Radisson RED, Radisson, Country Inn & Suites, Radisson Inn & Suites, Radisson Collection, Radisson Individuals, Park Plaza and Park Inn. These records also store a condition, separate from the excerpt: Comfort Suites Downtown — Military members under 21 are permitted with valid military ID (the page does not give a lower age for them). Econo Lodge Nashville North — The hotel states that it does not accept online reservations from guests within a 75-mile radius; additional local-guest restrictions may apply. Reward-point reservations require at least 10 nights previously stayed at this exact hotel in the past 12 months. Sleep Inn Nashville North - Downtown Area — At least one adult aged 21 or older must stay in each room.

What to confirm before you pay

Use the exact hotel’s own choicehotels.com page. The FAQ’s 19-or-21 sentence does not replace that page.

A message you can send the hotel

Use the contact details on the exact property’s choicehotels.com page. Replace the brackets. Do not send full card numbers or ID numbers in an ordinary email.

Hello, I will be [age] on [arrival date] and I want to stay at [full hotel name and street address] until [departure date]. Can I check in as the registered guest? Please confirm the minimum age, whether a guest of 19 can book alone, what happens if another guest is 18 or under, the photo ID you accept, and whether my credit card can be used for the room and any incidental hold. The other guests will be [ages]. Please confirm the answer in writing before I book.

If the reply only says a room is available, or only repeats that children 18 and younger stay free, ask again for the check-in age. Availability and a child-stay rule are not the same answer.

How this was checked

The Choice FAQ quotations above were read on 22 October 2026 at the URL linked in this guide. The same day’s check of 16 choicehotels.com property pages in the Houston area and Orlando found an age on 2 pages. The 7 ages, excerpts, conditions and review dates in the table are the catalogue records linked above.

This was webpage and directory research, not a phone call, a stay or a front-desk test. Policies can change. Confirm the exact hotel before you pay. Sponsored rate links, when a page shows them, do not change the age result.

Common questions

What is the Choice Hotels check-in age?

Choice does not publish one number. Its FAQ says: “If there will only be one guest in the room, most hotels require you to be a minimum of 19 years of age to book. However, some hotels require guests to be 21 or older.” It also says: “When a reservation is for two or more guests, at least one occupant must be 21 years of age or older if any other occupant staying in that room is age 18 or under. Call the hotel directly with any questions about age restrictions.” In CheckInAge’s reviewed sample, 0 of 7 Choice-family hotels list 18 or lower and 7 list 21 or older.

Can you check into a Comfort Inn, Quality Inn, Sleep Inn or Econo Lodge at 18?

No reviewed Comfort Inn, Quality Inn, Sleep Inn or Econo Lodge lists 18. Comfort Inn: no reviewed property is in this directory, so none lists 18. The Choice FAQ says most hotels require a single guest to be at least 19 to book, and some require 21. Ask the hotel. Sleep Inn: no reviewed property lists 18. The brand FAQ says 19 is the common minimum to book a room for one guest. Confirm with the hotel.

Does “children 18 and younger stay free” mean the check-in age is 18?

No. The FAQ says: “At participating locations, children 18 and younger stay free when they share the same room as their parents or grandparents.” That is a child-stay rule. On 22 October 2026, 14 of 16 sampled Choice property pages showed only “Anyone aged 18 and under, at time of booking, stay for free” and did not state a check-in age. Ask the hotel when the page is silent.

What do I need at a Choice Hotels check-in?

The FAQ says: “At check in, you'll need to present a government-issued ID and a credit card. The name on your identification and card must match the name under which the room was reserved.” That is a government-issued ID and a credit card in the reservation name. It does not state a debit-card rule or a deposit amount. Deposit and ID details that a specific hotel page states stay on that hotel’s record.

What if the Choice page does not list an age?

Treat the check-in age as unknown. The FAQ says to call the hotel with questions about age restrictions. In a 16-page sample on 22 October 2026, only 2 Choice property pages stated an age at all. Keep the written answer before you pay a nonrefundable rate.
