CHECKINAGE GUIDE
Debit cards and hotel deposits
Understand card acceptance, authorization holds and why missing deposit data must stay unknown.
Acceptance and presentation are different
A page listing debit or credit cards may not say whose card must be shown, whether the physical card is required or whether prepaid and virtual cards are allowed.
A hold is not always a charge
Hotels may authorize funds for incidentals and release unused amounts after departure. A bank can take additional time to make those funds available again.
Ask for the amount and basis
Confirm whether the amount is per night or per stay, whether room and tax are included, and whether the amount changes for cash or debit payments.
Unknown does not mean zero
If the reviewed official source does not state a deposit, CheckInAge leaves the amount unknown. Budget a buffer and ask the property directly.
Use the current property source
Directory guidance cannot approve a guest or replace a hotel’s current terms. Match the exact property and confirm unresolved requirements before paying.
