CHECK-IN AGE & HOTEL POLICIES

Know a hotel’s check-in age before you book

CheckInAge answers the listed minimum check-in age for 1,084 reviewed US hotels across 202 cities. Compare the rules property by property, with official sources and clear gaps where an answer still needs confirming.

Updated

  • 1000+ hotels researched
  • 200+ U.S. cities
  • Official sources linked
  • 30-day freshness window

An age match does not guarantee admission or payment acceptance. Always reconfirm with the property before travel.

HOW IT WORKS

Three steps before you pay for the room

Use your age on arrival, pick a destination, and read the listed minimum with its source date — then confirm ID and payment rules on the hotel page.

  1. 1. Enter age and destination

Tell us how old you will be at check-in and where you are staying. Optional arrival date keeps the comparison honest.

  2. 2. Read the listed minimum

Each card shows the published age, match status, and when we last checked the official source.

  3. 3. Confirm the rest before booking

Open the hotel page for ID, card, and deposit details. Reconfirm with the property near your trip.

WHAT WE RESEARCH

Age is only the first filter

A brand name is not a policy. We separate facts so an age match never pretends to answer payment or pet questions.

METHODOLOGY

Every listing has a paper trail

Official sources, check dates, and honest gaps. Research is assisted by AI; the recorded method is a review of linked webpages — not a front-desk confirmation.

FAQ

Common questions about hotel check-in age

Can an 18-year-old check into a hotel?

Often yes, when that specific hotel lists 18 as its minimum check-in age and the guest meets its ID and payment rules. Many U.S. properties instead require 21. CheckInAge shows the listed minimum for each researched property; always confirm with the hotel before booking.

Why do some hotels require guests to be 21?

A 21+ rule is usually a property policy for liability, noise, alcohol access, or insurance — not a single national law. Two hotels in the same city or chain can set different ages. Treat the individual property’s written policy as the practical answer.

Does booking online guarantee I can check in?

No. An online reservation can succeed even when the front desk later refuses check-in for age, ID, or payment reasons. Prepayment does not waive those rules. Verify the hotel’s minimum age and card requirements before you pay, especially on nonrefundable rates.

What else should I check besides the minimum age?

Photo ID, whether a debit or credit card is accepted for the incidental hold, deposit amounts, and related policies such as pets, parking, and resort fees. An age match alone does not confirm those requirements.

How does CheckInAge verify hotel age policies?

We match each listing to an official hotel or chain property page, record the published minimum age with a source link and check date, and keep ID, card, and deposit facts separate. Research expires after 30 days. Conflicting sources stay unresolved until clarified. Details: /how-we-verify.

Are Expedia booking links the same as age-policy evidence?

No. Official evidence links stay separate from sponsored booking links. We may earn a commission when you book through a labelled Expedia link; that does not change the age-policy evidence or search order. Read the affiliate disclosure.
