How Old Do You Have to Be to Rent a Hotel Room in Florida?

Some Florida hotels publish check-in at 18 and others require 21. Compare official pages for Miami Beach, Orlando, Tampa, Fort Lauderdale and Daytona Beach.

Some Florida hotels publish 18, and others publish 21

Florida hotels set their own minimum check-in age. In the records below, some official pages list 18 and others list 21. There is no single Florida hotel age to substitute for the property where you will stay.

On Miami Beach, citizenM Miami South Beach lists 18 and Marriott Vacation Club, South Beach lists 21. In Orlando, Best Western Orlando Gateway Hotel lists 18 and Baymont by Wyndham Orlando/International Dr/Universal Blvd lists 21. If you are 18, 19 or 20, you meet the first hotel’s published age and not the second. Photo ID, payment and any hold are separate questions.

A reservation confirmation or a prepaid rate does not by itself confirm that the hotel will let you check in. Read the official page for the exact street address before you pay a nonrefundable rate.

Tampa is the same kind of split. JW Marriott Tampa Water Street at 510 Water Street lists 18. AC Hotel Tampa Airport at 4020 West Boy Scout Boulevard lists 21. The airport hotel’s age line was re-read on 2 November 2026. The JW Marriott record was checked on 31 October 2026.

Open the matching official page and look for the check-in age next to the property’s own hotel information or FAQ. If another source gives a different age for the same address, ask the hotel before you pay.

Being 18 in Florida and meeting a hotel’s rule are different questions

Florida Statutes § 743.07 removes the disability of nonage for people 18 or older. They have the rights and obligations of people 21 or older, except where the State Constitution or the Beverage Law says otherwise. That is an age-of-majority statute. It is not a rule that every hotel must accept check-in at 18.

The official property pages in this guide publish different minimum ages. Do not turn “I am legally an adult” into “this hotel must accept my booking.” This guide compares published arrival policies. It does not decide whether a refusal is lawful, and it does not claim that one age covers every Florida property.

Match the address, not just the destination name

Miami and Miami Beach are different cities here. A Brickell or downtown Miami hotel does not set the rule at a Miami Beach address. Daytona Beach oceanfront hotels and Speedway or airport hotels are separate properties even when they share a city name.

Hilton Orlando Buena Vista Palace publishes 18 and uses the street address 1900 E Buena Vista Drive, Lake Buena Vista, FL 32830. CheckInAge files that record under Orlando, the same way it files other Lake Buena Vista hotels. The mailing city on the address is still Lake Buena Vista. Use the street, not the marketing name, before you compare ages or plan the trip.

First reviewed records in Jacksonville, Key West and West Palm Beach

These five hotels were checked on their official pages on 3 November 2026. They are the first records in those three cities in this directory. Five hotels are not a citywide rule. An 18+ city list is published only when at least five reviewed hotels currently qualify, so these three cities do not have an 18+ list page yet. Use the city page and each hotel record.

Fitch Lodge’s age is an exception on the Key West Historic Inns FAQ. That page says guests must be 21 or older at the company’s properties, except Fitch Lodge, where the minimum check-in age is 18. Do not copy 18 onto a sister inn, and do not copy 21 onto Fitch Lodge.

In Jacksonville the split is already visible: the cruise-port Red Roof Inn and Aloft Tapestry Park list 18, and Aloft Jacksonville Airport lists 21.

What is still unknown about ID, cards and deposits?

The official lines used here establish the published minimum age. They do not establish a complete arrival checklist. Accepted ID types, debit-card acceptance, cardholder-name requirements and incidental hold amounts remain unknown for the hotels in this guide unless a separate hotel record says otherwise.

Ask what is required at arrival even if the room is prepaid. An incidental hold is an amount temporarily reserved for possible extra charges. Ask the hotel for the amount, whether it is per night or per stay, and how release timing works with your card issuer.

Do not treat an unpublished hold as a zero-dollar hold. A page that mentions cards or cash as payment methods does not, by itself, prove cash-only check-in or that someone else’s card will be accepted.

Spring break and a prepaid booking are not age approval

This guide does not treat spring break as a different check-in age. Use the age on the exact property page for your dates. Panama City Beach also posts local beach and rental rules. Those rules are separate from a hotel’s check-in age, and they are summarized in the spring-break guide rather than repeated here.

Garner Hotel Panama City Beach lists 21. Other reviewed Panama City Beach hotels list other ages. Open the city pages instead of assuming the beach uses one number.

Prepaying the room, booking with points or holding a confirmation does not prove the arriving guest meets the age rule. Confirm the registered guest before the cancellation deadline.

Marriott Vacation Club, South Beach, Baymont by Wyndham Orlando, AC Hotel Fort Lauderdale Beach and Comfort Inn & Suites Daytona Beach Oceanfront publish 21. Florida Statutes § 743.07 sets 18 as the age of majority. It does not require every hotel to accept check-in at 18.

Do Orlando and Miami Beach hotels use the same check-in age?
